This is a great dentist to go to. I’m not exactly sure about prices, but I am aware that they take Green Mountain Medicaid, which is my insurance. I’m very grateful for this because not a lot of dentist offices near by take my insurance, which can be really difficult. They have a nice waiting room, with multiple chairs, plants, and even a TV!

Dr. Alexander is an amazing dentist. He helped my 14 year old daughter build her confidence by repairing some problematic teeth she had that affected her smile. He even helped us secure transportation once because he was concerned about my daughter's well-being after having some major work done!!!! He made sure she received the care she needed when we otherwise wouldn't have been able to be there. Both my daughter's think very highly of Dr. Alexander. As do I.

Dental Extractions: Navigating the Path to Oral Health and Comfort

Understanding the Process, Indications, and Importance of Expert Dental Care

Maintaining a healthy smile is a top priority, and modern dentistry offers various techniques to preserve and restore teeth. However, there are instances when dental extractions become necessary to protect your oral health and overall well-being. At Union Street Dental, we believe in providing expert dental care, including safe and comfortable dental extractions when needed, to ensure the long-term health and comfort of your smile.

Understanding Dental Extractions

Dental extractions, also known as tooth extraction, is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. This procedure is typically performed when a tooth cannot be saved due to severe decay, damage, or other dental issues. While dentists strive to preserve natural teeth whenever possible, extractions may become necessary to prevent the spread of infection and maintain the overall health of the mouth.

Indications for Dental Extractions

Several situations may warrant a dental extraction, including:

  • Severe Tooth Decay: When tooth decay is extensive, and the tooth structure is severely compromised, extraction may be the best option to prevent further damage.
  • Advanced Gum Disease: Advanced periodontal disease can lead to the loss of gum and bone support, necessitating the removal of affected teeth.
  • Dental Trauma: Teeth that have suffered severe trauma, such as fractures or dislodgment, may need to be extracted if they cannot be successfully restored.
  • Crowded or Impacted Teeth: Sometimes, dental extractions are necessary to create space for proper orthodontic alignment. Impacted teeth, like wisdom teeth, may also need extraction to prevent complications.
  • Infection or Abscess: An infected tooth with a large abscess may require extraction to prevent the spread of infection to surrounding tissues.
  • Preparation for Dentures: In cases of severe tooth loss, dental extractions may be necessary to prepare the mouth for dentures or other tooth replacement options.

The Dental Extraction Process

Your dentist will ensure your comfort throughout the extraction process. Here’s what you can expect during a dental extraction:

  • Evaluation: Your dentist will examine your teeth and may take X-rays to assess the tooth’s condition and surrounding structures.
  • Anesthesia: Before the extraction, your dentist will administer local anesthesia to numb the area and prevent discomfort during the procedure.
  • Extraction: Using specialized dental instruments, the dentist will carefully remove the tooth from its socket.
  • Post-Extraction Care: After the extraction, your dentist will provide post-operative instructions, including tips for managing any discomfort or swelling and caring for the extraction site.
  • Tooth Replacement Options: If the extracted tooth needs replacement, your dentist will discuss appropriate tooth replacement options, such as dental implants, bridges, or dentures.

The Importance of Expert Dental Care

Dental extractions should always be performed by experienced dental professionals to ensure patient safety and comfort. Skilled dentists use advanced techniques and equipment to minimize discomfort and reduce the risk of complications. Additionally, expert dental care ensures that patients receive appropriate post-operative guidance for a smooth recovery process.

Preserving Your Smile After Dental Extractions

After a dental extraction, your dentist will work with you to explore tooth replacement options and discuss how to maintain the health and appearance of your smile. With modern dental technology and a focus on patient comfort, dental extractions need not be a source of anxiety. Instead, they mark the beginning of a journey towards improved oral health and a brighter, healthier smile.

Dental extractions are a valuable tool in preserving oral health and maintaining a functional smile.
